The Greater East Austin Youth Association (GEAYA) is preparing to make history at Mabson Field. On Saturday, March 28, 2026, the league will host its largest Opening Day lineup to date, marking a milestone year for youth sports in East Austin.

With 13 teams taking the field this spring—comprising 5 Tee Ball teams, 4 Coach Pitch teams, 2 Minors teams, and 2 Majors teams—the league has reached an unprecedented scale. The explosive expansion is a point of pride for the GEAYA Board of Directors, who have worked tirelessly to accommodate the influx of young athletes.

"We're so excited about this season!" said Coach Frederick Salazar. "I'm proud to be a board member and helping GEAYA during this amazing growth."

The league’s unique culture is also on full display this year through its creative team names. Coach Emaan noted, "The teams are strong and since we let our teams pick their own names, we got some great ones! The Blueberries! The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Electric Tigers, The Bluejays, The Texas Sticky Shoes! And the list goes on..."

To ensure the day runs smoothly for the record-breaking number of families, GEAYA is looking for volunteers to assist in one-hour blocks. Parents and supporters are encouraged to coordinate with their respective coaches to sign up for a shift either one hour before or one hour after their scheduled games.
