AUSTIN, TX — May 18, 2026 — The Greater East Austin Youth Association (GEAYA) has officially launched its new community feature, "Coaches Spotlight," aimed at recognizing the dedicated volunteers who power the 100% volunteer-run youth baseball league.
The inaugural feature shines a light on Austin resident Otilio Juarez, known across the league as "Coach O." Juarez joined GEAYA as a volunteer in 2023 and has expanded his role this season to serve as an assistant coach for three separate youth teams, accommodating the participation of his three children. In addition to coaching, Juarez frequently serves as a league umpire.
"Being on the field was more important to me than sitting in the stands," said Juarez regarding his motivation to volunteer. "I really enjoy watching the growth and development of each player. It’s amazing to watch the development from the beginning of the season to the end and year over year."
When he is not volunteering on the East Austin diamonds, Juarez works professionally as an Austin-based field manager overseeing the installation of school science laboratories.
GEAYA relies entirely on parent and community volunteers to provide athletic programming, coaching, and mentorship to local youth. Individuals like Juarez exemplify the community-first spirit required to keep youth sports accessible and impactful.
"Coach O is making a profound difference in the lives of East Austin athletes, just as our entire volunteer staff does each and every day," said Coach Lee Dawson Jr., President of GEAYA and GEAYA Little League.
"I've known Coach O since 2023 and he's an awesome coach and father! GEAUX Coach O!" said Coach Emaan Abdelbaki.
